Making Soap

©Katie Hacker 2007

Spent a fun evening last week making soap. It's such a relaxing craft. Meditative in the same way as baking but without the calories.

I make melt-and-pour soap, so it just involves melting the soap down, stirring in the yummy herbs or scents and then pouring it into molds. The ones in this picture are going to be stocking stuffers and little gifts for neighbors.

From left to right, there are: two-tone snowflake soaps, bumpy massage bars made from leftovers, Santas with scrubby apricot seed inclusions, confetti soaps with opaque soap shavings inside and clear soaps with little finger puppets in them. (Finger puppets are good because they're hollow and don't float up as the soap hardens.)

For more good, clean fun and inspiring soapy ideas, check out my book: Natural Soap Making (Hot Off The Press).
